Instructors Background
Megan Flanagan
Megan Flanagan is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer, UESCA-certified running and ultrarunning coach, 200-hour trained yoga instructor, and ultra-runner with a background in nutrition, behavior change, and public health. She brings 10+ years of experience coaching hundreds of clients in gyms, online, and in community-based settings, with a focus on integrating strength, endurance, mobility, and mindset for long-term performance and wellbeing.
Megan is the Founder of Strong Runner Chicks (SRC), a global community and education platform dedicated to redefining women’s distance running. As a former Division I collegiate runner, Megan witnessed firsthand the gaps in fueling education, mental health support, and body image conversations—particularly for female and nonbinary athletes. SRC was created to change the culture of endurance sport by centering strength, sustainability, and self-trust over perfection and performance at all costs. Since founding SRC, Megan has expanded her athletic journey into trail and ultra running. Her coaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that endurance and resilience aren’t just concepts to be taught, but they are lived experiences that shape how athletes, professionals, and leaders show up in their lives.
Megan works as a running, strength, and purpose coach, supporting individuals across sport, career, and life transitions. She has coached athletes ranging from high school runners (including serving as an assistant coach at Green Mountain High School from 2023–2024) to endurance athletes, hybrid competitors, and active adults seeking sustainable strength and performance.
Katie Carbiener
Dr. Katie Carbiener is a sports physical therapist specializing in endurance athletes, with a particular focus on running mechanics and the foot and ankle complex. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Colorado in 2015 and has spent her career practicing in sport-based outpatient orthopedics. She also holds additional certification in pelvic health, allowing her to address performance, injury prevention, and longevity from a whole-body perspective—particularly for runners and endurance athletes.
Prior to graduate school, Katie graduated from Longwood University with a degree in Exercise Science, where she also competed as a Division I lacrosse athlete for the Lancers. She is the founder of Carbs Performance and Wellness, a practice centered on holistic care, sustainable training, and coaching for both performance and longevity in the sport.
Katie has worked in run specialty retail for over eight years and currently fits footwear at Runners Roost Golden. She also serves as a running coach at Ralston Valley High School. As a competitive runner herself, Katie is currently pursuing a sub-3-hour marathon and is passionate about helping athletes train smarter—emphasizing quality over quantity for long-term health and performance.
